CHRISTIAN GERSTER
Multimedia Director / Creative Producer

What is it you are doing exactly?
...is a question that to this day I fail to answer within one sentence. And somehow the answer always varies and might get longer or shorter, depending on if its a cousin or grandmother that asks that question for the sixteenth time during that annual family gathering.

The truth is: its not that easy to describe! Maybe because it covers more areas than the average job or maybe its because with every year it seems there is something new, that by itself needs a written essay to explain. I mean where do you start when you name-drop "virtual production" or "spatial communication"? And how deep do you lead them down the rabbit hole?
So what are all the areas I cover?
From researching content and moods for storyboards to editing full on emotional teasers.
From planing, scheduling, budgeting, producing all in virtual production shoots to developing and timing complex live shows during some of the worlds biggest fairs.
A lot of times I stick with what is most relatable and just show them the documentaries and behind the scenes clips I have filmed, edited and produced for most of the productions I've been involved. Sometimes this might just causes more questions but a least now they have a picture in their head that you can start to break down.
And if they really want the full story on how it comes, that I not also guide artist and lead the communication between clients that include some of the worlds most known brands and international creative agencies - but also invest a lot of my time realizing passion projects such as producing image films for small businesses or shooting analog and vintage instant cameras - than I force them to read this:

A passion for film has guided me through my yeas at the University of Darmstadt, Germany where I reached my Bachelor of honors and majored in "directing", "screenwriting" and "filmmaking".

Taking the step towards spatial communication opened a whole new world and seemingly endless possibilities to express creativity beyond a two dimensional screen.
Skills in storytelling evolved by guiding the visitors view through a show that allows them to guess whats coming just to exceed their expectations. What always motivates me is to work creatively within a team which creates experiences that can be felt not just seen.
While expanding my horizon from its physical limitations into truly endless possibilities by working with europes first and germany's largest virtual production studio.
With shows like the Mercedes-Benz brand appearance at the IAA from 2013 all the way to 2021 I was able to be a part of some of the most precious spatial communication events in recent memory. A work process on the highest magnitude, that demands far more than creativity but also endurance, allowed me to grow and express my desire to have an impact. During several virtual production and car launches for VW, Porsche and (again) Mercedes-Benz, I was able to build on that physical experience and help to transport it into a complete new form of storytelling feeding into worldwide platforms.

Leading and communicating between client, creative directors and designers are considered some of my biggest strength that are challenged especially in content driven exhibitions like the Viessmann brand appearance at the ISH 2015 or the AR-productions for Phoenix Contact in 2017 at the SPS as well as the virtual productions for NXP and a 49hour live-stream with SAP in 2020. A great understanding of complex information and a sense for detail helped translating facts about new heating-systems that prevent climate change or the ecosystem for limitless automation into an entertaining and informatic show.

Beyond being part of creative teams that create events and content that excite up to one million visitors and viewers as well as small intimit exhibitions, I enjoy capturing those moments to tell the story again within documentaries that helped wining several awards, but also creates a reminder of the process as well as the emotions lived.
